People tried to exchange their
feelings and expressions from the time when letters were invented. Thus literature was born and it grow to
become an integral part of human history and culture.
Initially the medium of writing
mainly included rock carvings, clay tablets, papyrus scrolls and palm
leaves. Gradually it changed to paper
and printing on a mass scale. Along with
the medium, the content of writing also changed. Writers began to experiment with various
forms and literary styles.
World literature is vast as well as
diverse. Throughout the centuries great
many writers have contributed to the development of literature and culture
across the world.
Some of these great writers from
the history of literature are being cherished by men of all time such as Aesop
who is popular with children all over the world. All of us must have heard and read many of
Aesop’s fables like “The Fox and the Grapes”.
Another great writer to be remembered in this context is Sophocles whose
most famous plays include Antigone, Oedipus, Rex etc… His plays mainly deal with fate and they
reminds us of the fact that, no matter how much they try, men cannot control
their fate.
There are many English men who
ranked as distinguished writers of the twentieth century. Mark Twain, H.G. Wells, George Orwell, P. B.
Shelley, Wordsworth are a few among them.
George Bernard Shaw was even considered so controversial for his antiwar
articles her wrote after the outbreak of First World War.
The greatest and most notable
ancient Indian writer belongs to this series is Kalidasa. His famous works like “Abhinjana
Shakunthalam”
“Vikramorvashiyam” etc… brought
immense recognition to him as well as Indians.
“The Mahabharata” by Vyasan is one of the greatest marvels in the
literature of the world.
One thing is for sure that this is
not a complete list. Many of them have
been forgotten. Some have stood the test
of time and are still remembered in reverence.
They are the great writers who gave the world the store house of wisdom
and compassion and lead the world from darkness into lights ages.
